Governance
How CoderTraining.ca manages AI, coding standards, security, and data. Written for hospital privacy officers, HIM managers, and institutional procurement teams.
AI Governance
How AI is used
CoderTraining.ca uses artificial intelligence to support educational guidance and learning activities. AI-generated responses are validated against applicable coding standards where available — the system retrieves evidence from licensed ICD-10-CA and CCI content before generating any response.
AI disclosure
AI technology
- Large language model (LLM) technology for text generation
- Semantic search against licensed CIHI content (vector + full-text retrieval)
- Retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) grounds every answer in official source material
- No patient data is processed — all cases are educational / fictional
- User inputs are not used to train AI models
Human verification
AI-generated coding guidance is for educational purposes only. For production coding decisions, users must exercise professional judgment and verify against official CIHI sources (Folio, Canadian Coding Standards, DAD/NACRS Abstracting Manuals). CoderTraining.ca does not imply certification or endorsement by CIHI.
Standards Governance

| CCI | 2024 | CIHI | Licensed |
| Canadian Coding Standards | 2022 | CIHI | Licensed |
| DAD Abstracting Manual | 2024–2025 | CIHI | Licensed |
| NACRS Abstracting Manual | 2024–2025 | CIHI | Licensed |
| ICD-10-CM | 2024 | CDC / CMS (US) | Public domain (US) |

Standards update process
CIHI updates ICD-10-CA and CCI annually. When new versions are released, the platform database is updated to import the new code tables, RAG documentation, and validation rules. The standards version in use is displayed on all coding screens. Users are notified when the platform is updated to a new standards release.
